Friesian clove Farmhouse 3 months
Friesian Clove Cheese is only rarely found outside of the Netherlands. It is a regional delicacy from the Northern part of the Netherlands called ‘Friesland’. Its many names come from the Dutch words for clove and nail. It is known locally as "nail cheese" or, in Dutch, "Nagelkaas" and also as Kruidnagel meaning literally 'spicy nail' because of the nail-like shape of the cloves used in the cheeses production.
Known and loved in the Netherlands for their spicy, sharp and distinct taste, this cheese are well worth a try. This cheese is made from pasteurised skimmed cow’s milk and are available in two variants: matured and aged.
The Cheese Trap has a matured wheel in stock, which is aged for nearly 3 months to give the cheese its distinct taste and flavour. This variety of Friesian cheese is made with both whole cloves and cumin seeds and is spicy and tangy. The wheel has been carefully produced by ‘De Gelder Cheese Farm’ in the village of Tijnje, and the cheese won the first prize in the 2013 farmhouse cheese contest!
