Reypenaer Gouda XO 36 months
Reypenaer XO Réserve is the king of the Reypenaer cheeses. It is specially selected and then allowed to mature for an extra long time in their traditional cheese warehouse, which was built way back in 1906. The exquisite taste of this fantastic cheese is a result of the long maturation period and their many years of experience.
By setting aside a small selection of Reypenaer cheeses from the best time of the year, Jan and Rien van den Wijngaard have created an incredibly special cheese that is available in only a limited quantity: Reypenaer XO Réserve.
Only the finest, smoothest tasting dairy products are used to make this Reypenaer cheese. All the milk comes from cows that are free to roam outside during the Dutch summer, when the mixture of rain and pleasant temperatures provides the ideal conditions for the growth of lush, green grass. Their cows produce pure, fresh milk that is rich in proteins and milk fat and the perfect start for the maturing process in our traditional cheese warehouse.
About the family:
Piet started in 1936 with the trade in cheese, actually as a medium of exchange for the groceries who he provided to the farmers in the region of Woerden in the Netherlands, where he was paid by cheese. During that age, cheese got more and more important. His son Jan took over the company in 1946/47 and set out completely to the ripening process. The company developed slowly but steady. In the Netherlands the cheese was more and more appreciated. In 1975, the third generation showed up, with daughter Riet, son Jan and since 1995 son Rien. In 2019, the fourth generation joined with Jan, the son of Rien, together with Huug, son of Riet, in 2020.
